Song of the Day: “Illusionary Dream” - Eddie Harris - A Tale of Two Cities
Eddie Harris was the genius behind “Freedom Jazz Dance.” He also invented and played some cool instruments like the reed trumpet, the saxobone, and the guitorgan. His mama was from New Orleans, so I feel some sort of tangential connection to him. He was a pretty cool guy.
I have to thank WWOZ for playing this song today. If this song doesn’t make you happy, then I don’t know what will. You may notice that he spends a good portion of the song talking about the studio arrangement; unfortunately, this song never came to fruition in the studio, it would have been pretty amazing to hear all of his ideas fleshed out.
